Moroccan and Senegalese business leaders, officials and legal experts met in Dakar on Wednesday, September 30, to discuss how to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. The meeting focused on the business law framework of the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA) and on Senegal’s local content requirements. Participants called for an update of the 1964 establishment convention between the two countries and proposed creating a Senegal-Morocco business council.
The meeting, held as a lunch debate at the residence of the Moroccan Embassy in Dakar, was themed “Morocco-Senegal Economic Partnership: The OHADA Legal Framework and Local Content Challenges.” The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Senegal organized it in partnership with the Dakar Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (CCIAD) and a law firm.
According to the embassy, the event is part of the follow-up of economic and entrepreneurial cooperation between the two countries. This cooperation is evolving in line with “Senegal 2050 – National Transformation Agenda,” the country’s long-term development strategy. The embassy added that the meeting also reflects the shared vision of King Mohammed VI and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye for African cooperation based on integration, value creation and sustainable partnerships.
Building on the January joint commission
The meeting builds on the momentum of the 15th session of the Morocco-Senegal High Joint Commission and the Morocco-Senegal Economic Forum, held on January 26 and 27, 2026 in Rabat and Casablanca. Both events put a strong focus on developing trade, investment and partnerships between businesses in the two countries.
The commission was co-chaired by Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, and ended with the signing of 17 cooperation agreements. On the sidelines, the two countries’ industry and trade ministers agreed on a new roadmap covering standardization, industrial zones and capacity building.
